Bread, vegetable, and ham pieces dipped in melted cheese sauce While cheese fondue is the most widely known, there are other pot and dipping ingredients.Another style of fondue is a simple vegetable Broth or Bouillon Fondue. This makes a lighter, less caloric meal than the cheese or hot oil versions. Potatoes as well as other vegetables or small bits of meat are cooked in the simmering pot of broth.

 

 

A true Valaisian dish. It's traditionally prepared by melting a mountain cheese near a glowing fire, then serving it with potatoes and pickles.  Today,in Swiss homes, families melt their slices of cheese in a table-top electric appliance you will find many restaurants in the area make raclette over an open fire the traditional way

 

A classic Swiss dish consisting mainly of potatoes. It was originally a common breakfast dish eaten by farmers.   The rosti is often served to accompany other dishes however, it also can be a delicious meal in its' own right when combined with local ham and cheese and sometimes served with an egg on top.

There's always a wide variety of fresh-water river or lake fish dishes based on the local catch. It's a pleasure to dine on filet de perche on the lake shore. The Restaurant Alpina in Champex is a great good choice if you enjoy fish.

 

A typical Valasian seasonal dish which consists of roast sweet chestnuts with various accompaniments such as local cheeses and dried meats and served with pickles.

 

 The tradition of wine production in Switzerland comes from the Roman era.   There are many locally produced wines in Valais.  Look out for Fendant, Gamay and Dôle.

 

No Swiss gourmet journey would be complete without indulging the sweet tooth. Fruit is featured in many desserts, such as wonderful fruit tarts made local fresh berries, apricots or apples and served with whipped cream.

Au Vieux Champex

Situated in the heart of the village, Au Vieux Champex offers an extensive menu from the traditional, Valais fare including rostis, cheese and meat fondues, the regional favourite - raclette cheese, plus delicious, tender steaks and pasta dishes. Au Club Alpin

Au Club Alpin is located in the centre of the Champex village. Brother and sister team Charles and Marie-Christine are the third generation to run the establishment. Concentrating on fresh, local and seasonal produce, favourites include fresh lake trout in the summer, fresh chanterelle mushrooms and game in the fall. The restaurant has also cultivated a name for its slow-cooked winter food specialties including the famous 'pot-au-feu'. There is a lovely lakeside terrace behind the restaurant, making this a romantic dining option for winter or summer.

Hotel Alpina

On the edge of the Champex village, Alpina enjoys panoramic views from the terrace of the Grand Combin and the St. Bernard Valley. Au Rendez-Vous

Situated at the south entrance of Champex village near the apartment.  The restaurant features magnificent views across the lake from its terrace. An ideal spot for a coffee or one of their speciality savoury crepes featuring local cheese and herbs.

Le Cabanon

This small cafe restaurant is situated on the side of the lake and has a great sunny terrace overlooking the lake. Food is served between 11.30 until 17.30.  It is an ideal location for lunch and the menu du jour is usually a reliably excellent lunchtime choice.

 Gentina

This local artisan bakery also has a small cafe serving hot and cold drinks from fresh coffee, to hot chocolate and a rather strong vin chaud. In addition, all pastries are baked daily on-site and make a delicious treat after a day's skiing or walking the Valais mountain trails.
 

Le Mazot

This Valais restaurant is always a delight, serving a seasonal menu which is changed weekly and often includes many local specialities.  The restaurant is located close to the chair lift for La Breya.

Relais du Val' Arpette

Situated in the picturesque Val' Arpette, this friendly cafe and restaurant serves traditional Valais food. A 45 minute walk from Champex in the summer, the restaurant can be a super destination point to incorporate into an easy summer stroll. The popular restaurant is also accessible by road during the summer, but is only reached by skis or snowshoes in the winter. All the better for building up an appetite!   In the summer families and children can enjoy playing in the surrounding meadows and seeing the restaurant's collection of pet donkeys and pygmy goats.

 

Restaurant La Breya

This mountain top restaurant is situated at the summit of the La Breya chair lift and is a great lunchtime option for families and anyone hungry after a morning on the slopes. Accommodating  60 people inside, good weather enables visitors to take advantage of magnificent terrace views overlooking the Grand Combin. A full range of local dishes are served all year round.
