Champex is a small and friendly ski center with 25km of downhill piste. With skiing above 2000 metres, snow cover is generally reliable and the pistes are nearly always crowd free. There is a delightful nursery slope with a poma lift ideal for novice skiers and children alike. Champex houses a small branch of the Swiss Snow-sports School (SSS). The small lower piste is floodlit at night, and other activities include a 7-km toboggan run from La Breya, a natural half-pipe and an ice-climbing pyramid. There is also a small ice rink beside the Fort d'artilerrie. You will need your own ice skates.
Verbier is situated approx a 30 minute drive away. The bubble lift up to Verbier from La Chable is approx 20 mins drive and recommended to avoid the crowds. It is sometimes possible to ski down to Le Châble down in the valley if snow conditions are good. Off the slopes Verbier has a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Other near by resorts include Brusson, Nendaz, Le Châble, Les Collons, Mayens de Bruson, Mayens de l'Ours, Thyon 2000, La Tzoumaz (Mayens-de-Riddes) and Veysonnaz.
