Nestling in the heart of the Swiss Alps, Champex is a small, friendly Swiss ski resort with 25km of downhill piste. With pristine skiing conditions above 2,000 metres, snow cover is generally reliable and the pistes are nearly always crowd-free. There is a delightful nursery slope with a poma lift ideal for novice skiers and children alike. Champex also houses a small branch of the Swiss Snow Sports School (SSS). The small lower piste is floodlit at night for twilight skiing, whilst other winter outdoor activities include a 7km toboggan run from La Breya, a natural half-pipe and an ice-climbing pyramid. There is also a small ice rink beside the Fort d'Artilerrie. You will need to bring your own ice skates.
The larger ski resort of Verbier is situated approximately 30 minutes away by car. The bubble lift up to Verbier from La Châble is approximately 20 minutes drive and recommended to avoid the crowds. It is sometimes possible to ski down to Le Châble through the valley if snow conditions are good. Off the slopes, Verbier has a chic, cosmopolitan atmosphere and plenty of aprés ski entertainment. Other nearby resorts include Brusson, Nendaz, Le Châble, Les Collons, Mayens de Bruson, Mayens de l'Ours, Thyon 2000, La Tzoumaz (Mayens-de-Riddes) and Veysonnaz.
